Questions About Our Temporary / Contract Staffing Service
1. Why would I want a temporary or contract job?
Every day, three million people in the U.S. work in temporary and contract jobs. There are a lot of reasons people take temporary jobs. Some people like the flexibility it offers to be able to pursue non-traditional careers or other activities - writing, acting, raising kids. Others use temping as a path to a permanent job - 40% of temporary employees end up getting converted into a permanent hire. For those looking for a permanent position, taking a temporary job is a great way to make money, avoid gaps in your resume, try out different kinds of jobs, and get your foot in the door of some terrific companies.
2. What if I am looking for permanent employment, can HireMeNow.com help me?
40% of temporary employees end up getting converted into a permanent hire. For those looking for a permanent position, taking a temporary job is a great way to make money, avoid gaps in your resume, try out different kinds of jobs, and get your foot in the door of some terrific companies.
3. Is there a fee for using HireMeNow.com to get a temporary or contract job?
Our service is free. There is no charge to create an account, search for and apply to jobs, complete your application, update your availability, take skills tests, or upload a VINTRO (video resume), picture, and written resume. For a small fee, you can have us run a background check on you, or professionally check one or more of your references, but these checks are not mandatory.
4. How long does it take to complete a profile and qualify for temporary or contract jobs?
Unlike the hours you have to spend when you go to a traditional employment agency, at HireMeNow.com you can be eligible for work in less than 30 minutes. To be able to apply to jobs and get job offers, you just need to sign-up for an account, log in, complete an application, Name Your Own Wage(TM), give us contact info, and update when you are available to start working. That's it - you can do it all online at your convenience. When you have more time, you can and should do more, like taking skills tests to prove you have the skills you list in your application, creating and posting a VINTRO (video resume), uploading a picture, and, perhaps, ordering a background or reference check. All of these additional items will make your profile more complete, and increase your chances of getting selected for an assignment.
5. You say that I "deal directly with companies" - with no traditional staffing agency - how does that work?
A traditional staffing agency is like any middleman - whether it's a travel agent, stock broker, or matchmaker. The middleman matches people and/or things together. While there may be times when a middleman is helpful, sites like Expedia, Travelocity, E*trade, and Match.com have proven that people often can find what they want directly, over the Internet, without having to call or visit a middleman. HireMeNow.com works the same way. We let job candidates create profiles and set their availability, and we allow companies to post temporary positions. Companies and available candidates can search for each other, directly, and choose to move forward or not. Companies cannot see your contact information right away, but they can send you a message through our system, requesting interviews, skills tests, background checks, and/or reference checks. You can choose whether you are interested in the job; if you are, you respond via our system and, hopefully, the company makes you a job offer.
6. I have already signed up with one or more traditional employment agencies, why should I use HireMeNow.com?
We offer more convenience, more control, and potentially higher wages than any traditional employment agency. Do you know how often those traditional agencies are showing your qualifications to their client companies? Do the agencies really know your qualifications and what you can bring to the table? Are the agencies trying to place you every day? You may not know the answers, but you will with HireMeNow.com. We let you know how many times companies saw you in search results, and how many times they viewed your profile page. You totally control your profile, so you don't worry about a temp agency filtering or misinterpreting your qualifications. Also, we offer Name My Own Wage(TM) - so if you really want to get a job quickly, you could choose a lower wage. If you only are willing to work if a company is willing to meet your wage demands, you can set your desired compensation accordingly.
7. I use other job boards, why should I use HireMeNow.com?
If you are looking for a temporary position, using other job boards can be frustrating. Almost all of the temporary positions are posted by staffing agencies, not the actual companies that need the help. Because agencies don't want to reveal their clients to their competitors, you don't know the name of the company that needs the help. And because temporary positions usually get filled quickly, by the time you respond to the posting, the job may be gone. At HireMeNow.com, we have solved all of these problems. We don't allow agencies to post jobs; only the companies that need the help are allowed post on our site. And you can see the name and address of the company, the number of openings, the job description, the wage range, and other information. When the job is filled, the position is no longer listed, so you don't have to worry about outdated job postings.
8. Do you specialize in any type of job categories?
Any job candidate can use our service, but our focus is on Accounting, Admin / Clerical, Advertising / Marketing / PR / Graphic Design / Website Design, Banking / Financial Services, Customer Service / Telemarketing / Sales, Engineering, Finance, Healthcare Admin, Human Resources, Information Technology, and Legal. If you are looking for a job outside any of those categories, you can create your own category.
9. Are you focused on a particular geographic region?
Currently our temporary staffing service is only available for jobs located in the United States. Job candidates from any country are free to use our website to post a profile, including a VINTRO (video resume).
10. How, and how often, do I get paid?
Assuming you submit - and your supervisor approves - your Time Card, you get paid each week, and we can do a direct deposit into your bank account, or send you a debit card with your wages on it. Time Cards are entirely online - you log in to your HireMeNow.com account to fill them out and submit them, and your supervisor logs into his or her account to review and approve them.
11. Do you offer benefits?
Once you start working on your first assignment, you qualify for access to a number of benefit plans. HireMeNow.com has agreements with: 1) a benefit health series, from National Association of Consumers Direct; 2) a dental/vision plan from DentAchoice; and 3) a health care advocacy, intervention and saving plan from Consumer Health Benefits Association. These plans are not provided by HireMeNow.com, and HireMeNow.com has no role in your relationship with these providers.
12. Do you offer full-time or part-time positions?
We allow companies to post jobs for both full- and part-time assignments.
13. Can I protect my privacy? Who can see my profile and VINTRO (video resume)?
If you complete our application and provide your contact info and availability, then companies will be able to access your profile, including your VINTRO (video resume), when they search for suitable candidates. However, companies do not see your full name or any contact information right away. If they have an interest in you, they can send you a message through our system, requesting an interview, skills tests, background check, and/or reference checks. You can check out the company and the job, and choose whether you are interested; if you are, you respond via our system and only then can the company see your full name and contact you directly about the job.
14. You say that many temporary/contract workers convert to direct hires - how does that work at HireMeNow.com?
When a company makes a job offer to you, you will see the expected end date of the assignment. The company may extend or contract the length of the assignment, or offer to make you a direct hire (sometimes called a permanent hire). Of course, you must agree if the assignment is extended, and you can negotiate a salary and other terms of employment if the company wants to make you a direct hire.
15. Can I search for jobs without registering for an account?
No. You need to sign up for a HireMeNow.com job candidate account to be able to search for jobs. Once you sign up, you can set up a saved search, where we e-mail you each night if a job that fits your search criteria has been posted that day. Search criteria include wage, location, job category, and job type (either temp/contract, or temp/contract to direct hire).
16. What is the difference between a temporary job and a contract job?
Temporary workers in certain job categories (like Information Technology) tend to be called "contract" workers, but in terms of how you can use HireMeNow.com to find temporary or contract assignments, there is no difference.
Questions About Inviting Outside Employers (NOT HireMeNow.com Clients) To View Your Profile and VINTRO (Video Resume):
17. Is there a fee for using HireMeNow.com to post a VINTRO (video resume)?
Our service is free. There is no charge to create a profile page and post your VINTRO (video resume), and there is no charge for prospective employers to view the profile and video. We do limit the size of the VINTRO (video resume) you can upload -- we strongly recommend that you try to keep your video short because prospective employers usually do not have a lot of time to watch a long video.
18. What is a profile page?
HireMeNow.com provides you with your own profile page, which is more robust than at any other job site. It can include your VINTRO (video resume), a picture, a written resume, skills test results, background check results, and reference checks, along with your answers to the Application - which asks all of the questions that employers want to know about a candidate. You can send a link to this profile page, along with a Viewing Code, to as many prospective employers as you want. Your profile page can only be accessed with a valid Viewing Code, so you can be sure that nobody, including your current employer, has access to your VINTRO (video resume) without your permission. You can change your Viewing Codes at any time. You also have a Password, which you should never disclose, because it allows you to upload and/or change your VINTRO (video resume), picture, written resume, and Viewing Codes, and it allows you to send links to your profile to prospective employers.
19. Do employers pay to see my profile page and VINTRO (video resume)?
No. Prospective employers do not have to pay to view your video and profile.
20. Will anybody be able to access my VINTRO (video resume)?
No, you control who views your video through your Viewing Codes. Someone who wants to watch your video needs both your e-mail address and a valid Viewing Code.
21. How do I control who accesses my VINTRO (video resume)?
If you want someone to see your profile page, including your VINTRO (video resume), you can either log in to your HireMeNow.com account and send them a link by clicking on "Share My Profile with Employers," or you can direct them to our home page (www.HireMeNow.com), tell them to click on the Companies / View Video Resume button on the navigation bar, and give them both your e-mail address and a valid Viewing Code.
22. Who can access the contact information I submitted?
All of the information that you post on your profile page is secure from the public because your profile page is password-protected. So the only people who can access your profile page are those that you invite to see it. Any contact information that you submit within your HireMeNow.com account, but which you do not post on your profile page, can only be accessed by certified HireMeNow.com personnel.
23. What can I post about myself on my profile page?
You can post a VINTRO (video resume), a picture, and a written resume. If you choose to take skills tests, have us run a background check or reference check on you, and answer our Application - which asks all of the questions that employers want to know about a candidate - then the results of the skills tests, background and reference checks, and the Application will be posted to your profile. Note that if you are not happy with the results of a reference check, you can choose to keep that out of your profile page.
24. I use other job boards, why should I use HireMeNow.com?
We don't think you should delete your resume from the big job boards, but think about what makes you stand out from the millions of others who have posted their resumes on those same job boards. Hopefully, you've picked the right keywords and listed them in your resume so employers can find you. But even if employers find you, you have to hope they want to interview you among the dozens of other candidates they've found. Your HireMeNow.com profile page can set you apart, especially your VINTRO (video resume). If you are comfortable with employers you don't know seeing your VINTRO (video resume), you should include a link to HireMeNow.com on your written resume at the big job boards, along with your e-mail address and a valid Viewing Code so they can access your profile page. That is another good reason for you to post a profile on HireMeNow.com - most other job boards only show your resume to employers that have paid to subscribe to their service. With HireMeNow.com, you don't have to worry whether the employers that you want to work for have paid HireMeNow.com - our service is free.
25. Does my VINTRO (video resume) and profile page expire?
There is no time limit on how long you can keep your profile page.
26. How do I tell a prospective employer where to find my VINTRO (video resume) and profile page?
If you want someone to see your profile page, including your VINTRO (video resume), you can either log in to your HireMeNow.com account and send them a link by clicking on "Share My Profile," or you can direct them to our home page (www.HireMeNow.com), and give them both your e-mail address and a valid Viewing Code.
27. Will I know when an employer has watched my VINTRO (video resume) or visited my profile page?
We will send you an e-mail every time someone visits your profile page and VINTRO (video resume). Additionally, if you log in to your HireMeNow.com account and click on "Shared Profile Access Report," you can see who has visited your profile page, along with the date and time of the visits.
28. What if I don't want to protect my VINTRO (video resume) and profile page with a Viewing Code?
All VINTROs (video resumes) and profiles on HireMeNow.com are password-protected with a Viewing Code. It is for your safety and confidentiality.
29. How do I change the Viewing Codes given to employers to view my VINTRO (video resume) and profile page?
Log in to your HireMeNow.com account and click on "Manage Shared Profiles." In the "Is Active" column, you will see which Employer Viewing Codes are active. If you want to deactivate a Viewing Code, just click on the "Yes" in that column next to the Employer whose Viewing Code you want to deactivate. You will see the "Yes" turn to "No." If you want to reactivate that Viewing Code, just click on the "No" and it will turn back to "Yes."
Questions About Creating/Uploading/Deleting A VINTRO (Video Resume):
30. How do I make a video resume?
Making a VINTRO (video resume) is easy. You need one other person (unless you have a tripod or a mounted webcam), and a device to make the video - a camcorder, web cam, digital camera, or even a video-enabled cell phone. Many digital cameras and cell phones have video recording capability, although you may have to hit a switch or find an option to change from shooting still pictures to shooting video. Most video recording devices record in either the .AVI or .MPG formats, but HireMeNow.com can't accept a file in the .AVI format (they are too large). We do accept .MPG and Quicktime .MOV files, along with .MPEG, .MP4, .3GP, .ASF, .FLV, .WMV, .DV, .MOV, .QT. These files can be uploaded to HireMeNow.com after being copied to your computer. We suggest that you review your VINTRO (video resume) either on the device or on your computer to make sure you like it. Once you have completed the VINTRO (video resume) to your satisfaction and saved it on your computer as one of the accepted file types listed above, you can upload it to HireMeNow.com by logging into your account, going to "My Homepage," selecting "My VINTRO (Video Resume)," and then picking the file from your computer's file directory.
31. What should I say in my VINTRO (video resume)?
It is very important that you write down exactly what you want to say in a script. After you have opened your account, we provide a range of sample VINTROs (video resumes) and script outlines for you to review before you sit down to write your script.
32. How long should my VINTRO (video resume) be?
We strongly recommend that you keep your video short, about one minute. In fact, we limit the file size of the video that you can upload. Keep in mind that prospective employers usually do not have a lot of time. In addition, they don't need you to recite all of your prior experience, because that is available in your written resume. View our sample videos to see how you can make a good impression in a VINTRO (video resume) that is just one minute long.
33. What should I wear when recording my VINTRO (video resume)?
You should wear what you would wear if you had an in-person job interview. Dress professionally - no t-shirts, sweatshirts, funky hats, sunglasses, swimsuits, or revealing clothing. Also, do not wear clothing that is the same color as your background, so you avoid looking like you have a "floating head."
34. How should I set the scene (the background that the camera will capture)?
Pick a quiet, simple place to shoot your video - in front of a simply painted wall or a curtain is best. Be careful that your clothes are not the same color as your background (this will make your head appear to be "floating"). Think about what else is in the frame - you want the sole focus to be on you, not what is around you. So don't shoot your video outside, sitting at a messy desk, or with the TV playing in the background.
35. Should I add music, titles or special effects to my VINTRO (video resume)?
No, unless you are seeking a job in the entertainment industry, or you are looking for a creative artist position. Use your VINTRO (video resume) to let prospective employers get a sense of who you are, not how well you can add graphics or music.
36. How do I upload a video file from a camcorder?
A digital camcorder records in Digital8, MiniDV, HDV, or any of the DVD formats. You need to connect your digital camcorder to your computer, either through the USB or FireWire ports or by inserting a DVD you've recorded. Once you've downloaded the video from the camera to your computer as an .MPG or .MOV file, you can upload it to HireMeNow.com by logging into your account, selecting "My VINTRO (Video Resume)," and then picking the file from your computer's file directory. Note that .AVI files are too big to upload, but we also accept Quicktime .MOV files, along with .MPEG, .MP4, .3GP, .ASF, .FLV, .WMV, .DV, .MOV, and .QT files.
It is more complicated to use an analog camcorder, which records on VHS, VHS-C, SVHS-C, 8mm, or Hi8 tape, because they normally do not come with a way to connect directly to your computer. You will need to digitize the VINTRO (video resume) from your analog camcorder with a converter box, which will convert the analog signal from the camcorder to a digital signal that your computer can save as a .MPG file. Then you can upload that file to HireMeNow.com by logging into your account, selecting "My VINTRO (Video Resume)," and then picking the file from your computer's file directory.
37. Who owns the copyright and distribution rights to my VINTRO (video resume)?
Your VINTRO (video resume) is yours. As described in our Terms and Conditions, you retain the copyright in your video, but you grant HireMeNow.com an unlimited license to show your VINTRO (video resume), and you grant HireMeNow.com full right and title to any revenue (such as the revenue from advertisements that you see on HireMeNow.com) that HireMeNow.com earns, whether directly or indirectly, from showing your VINTRO (video resume). You may remove your VINTRO (video resume) at any time by logging into your account, selecting "My VINTRO (Video Resume)" and then clicking the "Delete" button below the video player. If there is no VINTRO (video resume) uploaded, it will say No Video, and there will not be a "Delete" button.
38. How do I delete a VINTRO (video resume)?
Log in to your HireMeNow.com account, click on "My VINTRO (Video Resume)," and then click the "Delete" button below the video player. If there is no VINTRO (video resume) uploaded, it will say "No Video," and there will not be a 'Delete" button.
General Questions About Your Job Candidate Account:
39. How do I post pictures and written resumes?
The process of uploading your picture is very similar to uploading your VINTRO (video resume). First, take a picture with a digital camera or cell phone that can take photos, and connect your camera or cell phone to your computer, through the USB or FireWire ports. Once you've downloaded the picture from the camera to your computer as a .JPG or .GIF file, you can upload it to HireMeNow.com by logging into your account, selecting "My Picture," and then picking the file from your computer's file directory.
To upload a written resume - which should be a Word (.DOC) or Adobe (.PDF) file - log in to your HireMeNow.com, select "My Written Resume," and then pick the file from your computer's file directory.
